Wood
Wood is a natural material that differs greatly from tree to tree. It may have several different colors, different shape and type of grain patterns, and be better suited for either staining or painting.
Maple for example is a closed grain type of hardwood, and is great to manufacture painted cabinets. Oak on the other hand, is an open grain hardwood (it means that when you run your fingers on its surface you can feel the small crevices of the grain lines), and is great for stained cabinetry where the color variations and contrast is the primary focus point.
Being a natural material, wood inevitably presents several characteristics that are unique to each tree. Our cabinet suppliers feature a detailed multi-page article about wood species and their color and main characteristics, for further information we recommend you to visit their link.
